Mailbox Walk

Our mailbox is two miles away from our house, and on a nice day it makes for a really delightful walk. I’ve always imagined myself walking it religiously every day, and the most impressive shape I would be in since I would accomplish nearly 30 miles each week, but alas, I don’t exactly have an hour and a half on the daily as of right now.

Plus…ever been stuck in an angry springtime lightning storm on the plains? With your terrified grade schooler? With nothing to get under? And nobody at home to drive a mile & a half to come rescue you?

I guess I will remain a fair weather mailbox walk participant after all. It’s fine.

The wildlife doesn’t vary much, usually deer and plenty of bugs. But right now the sunflowers are in bloom and I. Just. Love. Them.

Our most recent walk was hot, but with just enough wind to keep everyone cool. Miss Charlie has a thick enough coat for Antarctica and soaks up all the sunshine with her black topside, but I squirt her down with my camelback once in awhile and she metabolizes it well.

I recently discovered that she takes a ball when we go, and will leave it somewhere random alongside the road a mile or two later. But then she finds it on the next walk and leaves it somewhere else random in the grass! The cycle repeats.

Buzz Lightyear was the lucky recipient of a free ride this time around. He seems to be enjoying it.

Til next time! ✌️
